Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking about Competition Part 2:

Well, it was the yearly inter-department indoor sports competition held at my workplace, and a notice was circulated by the HR department to inform everyone about the event. I am employed as an accountant at a local manufacturing firm that has a good reputation in Argentina. This company specializes in producing plastic materials for everyday use.

Our office arranges this competition annually to provide employees with a chance to unwind. Working tirelessly throughout the year without any significant breaks can be quite challenging. Hence, various competitions are organized to mark this occasion. Personally, I participated in chess and card games. Additionally, there were other contests like a relay race involving female employees passing a pillow. Table tennis was another prominent event, though I did not participate.

The allure of enticing prizes, such as home appliances, added to the excitement. The company offered home appliances as rewards for the winners, such as a large-screen television for the first-place winner, a washing machine for the runner-up, and a microwave oven for the third position. Nonetheless, all participants received recognition for their involvement. The management ensured not to disappoint the participants. I secured the third position and received a microwave oven for my participation. Overall, it was a delightful event.

My prime motivation for taking part was to assess my proficiency in indoor games. While I had been adept at chess during my student years, I hadn’t practiced it in quite some time. The announcement of the annual competition provided me with an opportunity to hone my skills. Moreover, I derive genuine enjoyment from playing chess and cards, making participation in the competition all the more enjoyable.

Dưới đây là một vài câu hỏi thường gặp trong chủ đề Competition IELTS Speaking Part 3 mà Trung tâm luyện thi IELTS tốt nhất TPHCM Mc IELTS đã tổng hợp.

Why do you think some school teachers use competitions as class activities?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

I think many educators introduce competitive activities into classroom settings to inspire students and unlock their academic potential. They believe that fostering healthy competition, when managed well, can keep students involved and enthusiastic about their lessons, both in school and beyond. Clearly, this approach works because children naturally enjoy the thrill of victory, which can boost their engagement and motivation to learn.

Từ vựng:

Do you think it is a good thing to give prizes to children who do well at school? Why?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

No, I don’t think it’s particularly helpful when teachers and school administrators give prizes to children who excel academically. This method can actually go against the idea of fostering a healthy competitive environment. Often, children who don’t receive prizes may feel inferior to those who do, which can harm their self-esteem. Moreover, it’s important for children to learn to strive for excellence without expecting external rewards. They need to grasp that achievements in life aren’t always accompanied by prizes.

Từ vựng:

Would you say that schools for young children have become more or less competitive since you were that age? Why?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

I would argue that schools for young children have indeed become more competitive than in my younger days, mainly because of the commercialization of education. Nowadays, parents and students have higher expectations from educational institutions, pushing for more assessments and extracurricular activities. You know, this increased demand often leads to compromises in the quality of education and can affect the overall well-being of young learners, especially outside of school hours.

Từ vựng:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of intensive training for young sportspeople?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

Intensive training programs for young athletes provide numerous benefits, notably the development of mental resilience needed to tackle real-world challenges. These programs also cultivate a strong sense of camaraderie among participants, enhancing their teamwork and altruistic behaviors. However, there are significant downsides to such rigorous training. One major concern is the increased risk of severe physical injuries, which can be life-threatening. Besides, the intense nature of these training sessions can lead to high levels of stress and anxiety, affecting the overall well-being of the participants.

Some people think that competition leads to better performance from sports stars. Others think it just makes players feel insecure. What is your opinion?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

In our society, feeling a bit insecure is pretty normal, even when there’s no competition involved. So naturally, when athletes find themselves in competitive situations, they often grapple with insecurity as they try to prove their worth by outperforming others. Unfortunately, this kind of pressure can really magnify the impact of any failures, making them feel worse than their successes. That’s why I think it’s crucial to promote healthy competition in a supportive environment. We should encourage athletes to celebrate their wins, not just focus on beating everyone else.

Do you think that it is possible to become too competitive in sports? In what way?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

Definitely, there’s a real risk of people getting too competitive in sports. Some people put winning above everything else, and they might even use unethical methods to get ahead. We often hear about athletes turning to performance-enhancing drugs, and it’s happening more often than you’d think. Also, this overdrive to win at any cost can lead to players abusing each other, both physically and verbally, during competitions. That kind of behavior is clearly wrong and crosses all ethical lines. We just can’t stand for it.

Từ vựng:

What are the contests commonly seen on TV programs?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

Television programming caters to a diverse audience, offering shows in genres ranging from cooking to investing. Recently, music competitions have grown in popularity in Vietnam, particularly those featuring rap music. Shows like “Rap Viet” and “King of Rap” have propelled rap music into a cultural phenomenon, marking its significant exposure on national television for the first time. These programs have challenged previous preconceptions and succeeded in garnering widespread acclaim among viewers.

Từ vựng:

Why are competition shows popular?

Dịch nghĩa câu hỏi: Tại sao các cuộc thi cạnh tranh lại phổ biến?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

There are quite a few reasons why music competition shows are becoming really popular in Vietnam, but the primary one is probably how inspiring they are. You see people go from being unknown to becoming stars, which makes a lot of viewers think about what they could achieve themselves. Plus, the prizes are really enticing — especially monetary rewards. Winners not only get famous, but they also get some amazing opportunities and are treated like VIPs wherever they go. It’s pretty cool how much these shows can change someone’s life!

Từ vựng:

What kinds of industries need competition? Why?

Câu trả lời mẫu:

In lots of fields, you’ll find competitions, but I think sports really should stay fiercely competitive. It’s all about athletes chasing their dreams and earning big rewards. Competing in sports shows off their strengths, lets them represent their country, and it’s just super exciting for everyone watching. In Vietnam, football is huge—it basically reigns as the “King of Sports.” When Vietnam won the South East Asia Regional Cup back in 2018, the whole country celebrated like crazy. It just goes to show how sports can bring everyone together.
