Describe a subject/something that you would like to learn in the future

In the future, I’d love to learn the Vietnamese traditional musical instrument called the “đàn bầu”. It’s a monochord zither, which creates a distinctive, soulful sound. I have always been fascinated by its unique tone, and I believe it would be a remarkable skill to acquire.

To learn it, I’d prefer to find a local music school in Hanoi that specializes in traditional instruments. There, I could enroll in a structured class with a seasoned instructor who could guide me step by step. Of course, I’d supplement this with online tutorials, particularly those that offer a deeper understanding of how to produce the rich, resonant notes characteristic of the “đàn bầu”.

The primary motivation behind this endeavor is my love for traditional Vietnamese music and a desire to reconnect with my cultural roots. I find that playing such an instrument would not only be personally fulfilling but also a way to preserve and promote my heritage.

However, I anticipate that learning it will be challenging because it requires a lot of finesse and precision to master the bending technique that produces the instrument’s signature pitch variations. Nevertheless, I’m sure that patience, consistent practice, and guidance from a skilled teacher will help me tackle this exciting challenge.

Plus, even a part-time job can give you some financial independence, which is always nice!

What subjects do most young people prefer to learn?

Why? This is tricky because it varies, but I’d say tech-related subjects are super popular – things like coding or computer science seem in high demand. Also, creative fields like art and design always have some pull. Maybe it’s just from seeing how well those industries are doing, who knows? I think a lot of young people want subjects that feel practical, like they can lead directly to a good job.

What is more important when choosing a job, high salary or interest?

Honestly, this is a classic debate. Ideally, you find something you’re passionate about that also pays the bills! But realistically, it’s a balance. A high salary is great, but if you hate your job, it’ll drain you. Like, you might be miserable even with a fancy car. On the flip side, doing something you love but barely being able to pay rent is also unsustainable. It’s a personal decision how much weight you give to each factor.
