Among the national days in Vietnam I take the most interest in is Vietnamese Women’s Day. It is celebrated on the 20th of October, which marks the 92nd anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union as of 2022.
To the best of my knowledge, our national women’s day derived from a historic event that involved women from across the country in an attempt to stand out against French colonial imperialism. The date of such event was then chosen to be Vietnamese Women’s Day, and ever since, it has been celebrated every year to advocate gender equality and the legitimate rights and interests of all female citizens.
In the present day, Vietnamese Women’s Day represents the entire nation to express its sincere appreciation and utmost respect for all the contributions Vietnamese women have long been making to the eternal well-being of their motherland on economic, political, and social aspects. Regardless of her age and social status, every single female individual in Vietnam deserves to receive batches of roses and congratulations cards from all the men associated with her life on such occasion.
As for me, I would plan to surprise my mother with a chocolate cream cake, on the top of which there is a line saying, “Happy Vietnamese Women’s Day! My Beloved Mom!” She and my aunt are the two women who matter the most to my life for now.
